IT was a missed meeting with a friend that led to Simon Marlan wandering around Blackbutt Reserve on an afternoon in November.
Stumbling upon the koala enclosure, the long-time amateur photographer snapped off this picture of a mother koala trying to save her babies from an imminent fall. It's one of many pictures ranging from the cute to the contemplative entered in the The Herald's Summer Photo competition and puts him in to the running to snap up one of three digital cameras.Mr Marlan, of Dudley, said the three koalas had just been returned to the trees after a cuddle session when threat of a tumble loomed large."One of the little babies was put back on the branch and scrambled onto the back of another baby," he said."That seemed to frighten the first baby a little bit and it scrambled up the branch and dropped down."With help from the rangers at Blackbutt Reserve the mother and her offspring were returned safely to their perch.Mr Marlan is one of hundreds of budding photographers who have entered The Herald's Summer Photo Competition, which gives readers the chance to win one of three cameras from Domayne Kotara and have their images published in The Herald. For your shot at winning the annual amateur photography competition, capture your favourite summer moment and email it as an attached jpeg file to photocomp@theherald.com.au Entries are limited to three a person and must include your name, phone number, title and description of the photo, and the date it was taken. For full conditions go to theherald.com.au.
